    Hello,

I dont know if the title explains my problem the way i intended.

So, basically i bought Grim Dawn steam version on humble bundle a few days ago and have been trying to install it without success so far which is why i came here.

I tried every entry in the wine database for this game and every post i was able to find (multiple wine versions both stable and staging) and every time the install is a success i end on a problem which i havent seen described anywhere.

What happens is that upon launching the game through steam it goes into background (i can see it in processes) and even on the panel where all apps running are shown i can see it clearly.
However, when i click on the icon it just flashes to show that the click registered but nothing happens basically not sound or video.

    I will attach a screenshot.

Finally someone else with the same problem I've been having for months now.

I'm guessing that you are using the Virtual Desktop in Wine Configuration.
    Try turning it off.

I'm using Mint 17.3 and Mint 18 on several computers and this has been a serious issue with fullscreen games. I will set the Virtual Desktop to 1024x768 or even 1920x1080 but when the game launches in fullscreen I can't see it at all. I know its running because when I roll my mouse over it in the Panel, there is a thumbnail showing the game running. In my case, I "can" hear the audio, but no video at all.

I tried the game on my windows partition a few hours ago but even on windows I can't get the game running. It starts in window mode with a black background but then nothing happens. I have to kill the process in order to close the game.
Very strange imho. The game used to run pretty flawless on windows. Maybe this problem is somewhere related to your problem!

Strange it doesn't run in Windows, but a few months back the developers updated to Visual C 2015 which broke Wine.
So I updated my guide to manually install vcrun2015 and it works!

So, i tried with virtual desktop both turned on and off as well as multiple resolutions and the same result also tried launching using windowed parameter on steam and the same.

Btw, i mostly tried it using wine 2.0 so if anyone has better idea its more than welcome

You can always try an older stable version of wine like: 1.8.5

    What distro are you using?
Can you play any other games in PlayOnLinux?
Are you using a 32-bit or 64-bit virtual drive?

I am using Linux mint 17.1 Yeah, i can play any other game just fine only grim dawn is acting this way.

I also use 32 bit virtual drives for all games and i tried older wine versions down to the 1.7 range i also tried everything entry on the wine database for it as well as the guide on this website and end up with the problem explained in the original post at best.

Grim Dawn has been acting funny with another gamer who posted earlier.
I am able to run it fine, but have not updated in a few weeks.
Now I'm afraid to update because it might break Wine again.

Have you tried starting over with a new virtual drive?

Yeah, i tried reinstalling grim dawn multiple times with multi settings and even tried more wine versions anywhere between 1.6 and 2.1 . Also tried every guide on here, grim forum, youtube and anywhere else i could find

At this point i am without any further clues on what else to try.

This weekend I will try installing Grim Dawn from scratch and see if there is a new update breaking the game.

    What? Not cool!
Maybe there was a bug and you happened to experience it?
I don't follow their updates but you can always check their forum.

Hard to tell, basically what happened is that a friend told me that there was a update to grim dawn (assuming a hotfix) around 16mb and after downloading it the game works. Already tried wine 2.0 and 1.8.5 and it runs well in both.

Of course i couldnt find a changelog yet so no idea what they changed.
