Crysis 2: Guide or no guide?

I love your attitude Daniel. So far it only crashes once about every 30min to an hour. I don't normally play more than an hour anyways. I can easily make it through several checkpoints... not to mention you can't quick save anyways. So even if you die the game starts you at the same place where...

dota2 native linux : sound problems

Wow, I'm dumb! I didn't even notice. So you have no idea what motherboard you have? Maybe crack open the case and take a look. I'm just curious if the onboard audio would work better for games? Nice Video Card by the way

Sure, I can definitely recommend a desktop for around $500.00 You are already saving money since you want to use Linux. I will create a private conversation with you about the hardware.

Crysis 2: Guide or no guide?

What I'm finding on the PlayOnLinux forum is that people are either ignorant or don't care. So they will just buy some AMD card and try to play games in Linux, then find out there are lots of driver issues. One guy on the Mint forums claimed his AMD card works great and plays games just fine...

dota2 native linux : sound problems

Wow, really? Thats pretty cool... I still have a couple Sound Blasters. In that case... 10 years old may be the problem. How old is your motherboard?

dota2 native linux : sound problems

I have an Audigy on my Vista machine. Its about 5 years old. I would think Linux could handle a 5 year old dedicated sound card. Yeah, look for some newer drivers

I'm guessing you had Windows before you installed Linux. Linux can work for "some" gaming on a laptop, but Wine is more CPU intensive because its running Windows processes and Linux processes. Not emulating Windows, but running stuff in the background that native Linux games don't use. I have...

Ok, I'll try to look it up and see what I can find about it and Wine. All games are sluggish on my laptop, even facebook games.

Crysis 2: Guide or no guide?

Exactly! I was hoping to get more feedback from the rest of the crew, but I have already got the Guide setup. Its not published yet. I'll wait a bit longer. I made sure to be very specific in my conclusion about the crashing, shadows and graphical artifacts. So if anyone wants to troll about...

Crysis 2: Guide or no guide?

Wine 1.6-rc4-d3d-doublebuffer still crashes, but a lot lot lot lot less. I was able to play for at least an hour without crashing. Not to mention if you get to a check point the game will happily load from there if it does crash. I'm starting to consider this a success and guide ready

Very nice, this is the way I approach untested games as well. Look in the game folder for "extras" or "redist" something like that. You should be able to find what packages the game needs. Otherwise, stick to the standard: d3dx9 vcrun2005 vcrun2008 msxml3 corefonts tahoma Looks like a Civ...

What is the model of your laptop? Its gotta have some kind of video chip in it. Chances are the laptop is too underpowered for 3D games like Star Trek Online. Are there any other games you "can" play?

Hi Matt, welcome to the forums. Yeah the 3 hour download is ridiculous! But don't delete it yet. There is a chance you can still use the game files without having to download again. Dem and I also had to wait 15 minutes for the initial game screen. Not sure why, but Neverwinter was the same...

Recordmydesktop Looks like the best software to record how to install a PlayOnLinux game. I'll do some tests and see how it works. The cool thing is that it records audio from the game too. So later I can record the narration with a mic and there will still be game audio. I'm doing a test...
