Steam update breaks wine compatability for all games again!

We all know Windows isn't much better. Most of the time it works fine (cause you are paying for it) but I've read many-a-post about Windows crapping out on them. We know that any operating system can still have bugs and breaks. I thought Mac was a full-proof "just works" but when those macs...

Steam update breaks wine compatability for all games again!

I'll test it tonight Steve. I have been staying away from Steam for a while know because of problems like this. How ironic because I finally thought I would give Steam a try again and now this? I just posted a guide on Tomb Raider and it worked fine this week. But the other night I was playing...

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Guide

I chose 32-bit virtual drives because 99% of these games are only 32-bit compatible. Hence why I have had so much success in running PlayOnLinux games. Yes, it limits memory to 3.25 Gig, but I'm pretty sure 32-bit games can only use that much Memory anyways. But yes, if you want to utilize all...

    Valve In-Home Game Streaming

Now if I could stream my WinSteam games over the internet to my Chromebook, that is a whole different story. Then I could be playing my favorite games right in Linux on my little laptop anywhere I want.

    Valve In-Home Game Streaming

Yes, but I have a chromebook with Ubuntu 12.04 on it... now I have freedom. I guess the benefit for me would be streaming my WinSteam games to my chromebook, but why would I want to do that when I can walk in the other room and play them in Windows?

    Tomb Raider 2013 Guide

Tomb Raider goes way back to 1996 on the Sega Saturn, Playstation and PC. Several generations later and a few movies, now Lara Croft is stranded on an Island somewhere near the Bermuda Triangle. Tomb Raider plays like a movie with stunning visual effects chilling action. Lara still does...

    Everquest II

Its very possible that POL is having a hard time showing you how to use virtual drives and wine versions. I only use 32-bit virtual drive and 32-bit wine versions. I never have any problems. But I have yet to use a 64-bit executable in PlayOnLinux. That day will come

    Skyrim Issues

Nice, so you know Linux just fine. That definitely gives you an advantage! I'm not so much the Terminal, hacker, guru, programmer. I'm just an enthusiast that works in the IT field and loves games. If it weren't for games, I would have never started learning about computers. Once again, thanks...

    Everquest II

Sounds like you aren't the only one having this "arial" problem in Wine. Steam has been known to update their client and it will break in Wine. So that is a possibility. Even Fireaxis patching up a game could break it, but that rarely happens to me. I miss the old days where you had to patch...

    Skyrim Issues

I have no idea if a game can be "decompiled" but normally developers will use source code to port their game to Linux. GOG on the other hand needs to ask for source code from publishers/developers in order to offer Linux compatible games. Otherwise, they will probably use a Wine "wrapper"...

    Skyrim Issues

I forgot to answer your last question... I have not tried virtualization for games yet, because I have read and experienced how slow virtualization can be when all the hardware layers are virtualized. Wine is really the best way because its a layer or wrapper, but works directly with your...

    Skyrim Issues

You may have to dual-boot for now. AMD drivers are a "waiting game" because who knows when they will patch or update Linux compatibility. Not to mention that this is Linux and Wine compatibility. Intel, AMD and Nvidia will not fix anything Wine related because its just a wrapper acting like...

    Skyrim Issues

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm guessing it is the AMD drivers causing a lot of your problems. The AMD 6450M is equivalent to Intel HD 4000 but the Intel drivers are better. One thing I have read over and over is that the AMD drivers are poor quality and unpredictable. Nvidia has been able to keep...

    Everquest II

I read a post that suggest copying arial fonts from /usr/share/fonts/TTF to your drive_c/windows/fonts folder.

    Everquest II

If the virtual drive is broken, you will probably have to re-create it again. I'm not sure if you can backup your Everquest II files so you don't have to download the entire game again.... but you might want to find out if that is possible. There are several font packages available through...

    Chromium PepperFlash reverts

The first thing I noticed with Ubuntu 14.04 and Mint 17 is that Chromium no longer automatically installs flash for you. So on to google I went... I found that you have to add a PPA then install Pepper flash with Terminal: This works just fine, but when I reboot, the updated flash player is...

Problem with League of Legends Wheezy 64

Dang, I was hoping you were getting closer to success. I'm not a programmer, but I really with the AMD or Open Source drivers were as good as Nvidia drivers. I havn't heard of the s3tc force. I bet if you had a desktop with an Nvidia card, this game would be no problem. Sorry you couldn't get...
