    Pattern Philosphy

I've always figured that EVERYTHING has a pattern, or forms one over time. I also believe strongly that when I think something is actually RANDOM, it's because I just haven't figured out what the pattern is [yet]. Like Chris, I work really hard to establish independent thinking in my kids...

I'm late to the party, but best of luck with the new gig. When do you actually start?

UnderRail, LMDE2, error: no suitable graphics card found

Patience, Grasshopper. Not all of us are in the same time zones; I'm sure that you'll make contact sooner or later :) But if I had to guess, I would guess that your graphics processor is outdated/insufficient/underpowered/not able to work or the driver won't. I know that's not what you wanted...

Yet another Adobe Flash security assininity

I don't rightly know the answer to your question. Daerandin says that Flash is 'built in' to Chrome. I can't confirm or deny that since I don't use Chrome. If it is built in as he says, then I would think that removing the package would not affect Chrome. I'm not sure why it would be more...

Yet another Adobe Flash security assininity

Flash is a separate package from Firefox. No problem at all to remove it. Look in your package manager, or: sudo apt-get purge adobe-flashplugin should do it.

    Only in Thailand

In today's news: http://www.bangkokpost.com/learning/advanced/1009037/footbridge-with-powerpole-through-it-fixed Well, I guess all's well that ends well. But, as usual, the importance of the fix was determined by 'face', a completely foreign concept to most Westerners. The governor...

    Only in Thailand

Apparently the story is that a contractor was engaged to build a 50m flyover for pedestrian traffic. Because the wait for the provincial electric people to remove and relocate the pole became too lengthy, he decided that rather than wait, he would begin to build the bridge anyway. He claimed...

I love this place, but boy, oh boy... I have no words to express whatever it is I could be thinking.

    r9 m275x driver question

From 'Money for Nothing' on the Brothers In Arms album by Dire Straits. You have to know it. This album is possibly/probably/arguably their best work.

    r9 m275x driver question

    r9 m275x driver question

If you shot a guy with a paper clip outside Gracie Mansion today, you'd be a terrorist. I used to know somebody on Hizzoner's security detail, but he retired, so I don't think I could help you out of that dire mess.

Discussion of systemd adoption by Debian, openrc, sysvinit

I think you'll find Gizmo agrees, mostly, with what you've said...but he doesn't need my intercession, actually:

Ah...about that last rib I broke....

Ah, found it. Fatima's ship was the 'SS Quivering Thighs'... LOLZ

Ah...about that last rib I broke....

Zap. Oh yeah. I forgot about that one. WTH was the name of Fatima's ship? Wasn't it the SS Shaky something or other... Crumb was considered lowbrow then, I remember the issues were only to be found in underground record shops and such. Certainly not on the barbershop reading list. I had a...

Ah...about that last rib I broke....

Viz is like a British version of Mad or National Lampoon. I think it's still going, but I haven't seen one in years. It had serial characters in addition to Nobby, like Sid the Sexist, The Fat Slags, Buster Gonad, Yankee Dougal, and Johnny Fartpants. I'll leave it to you to muse upon what...

Discussion of systemd adoption by Debian, openrc, sysvinit

The following posts have been moved here, from the IRC thread. Unfortunately, Mr Thunder has failed to properly move/merge and can't figure out how to correct his error any better than what you see here. He accidentally merged the posts together before moving them, and it can't be undone. All...

Guys, the systemd discussion is interesting, but it belongs in the right place. This thread is for information and support for the IRC channel on OFTC. Moving the systemd posts to: https://www.gamersonlinux.com/forum/threads/discussion-of-systemd-adoption-by-debian-openrc-sysvinit.940/

Ah...about that last rib I broke....

LOL, it's Cockney rhyming slang for 'state' as in, "Ol' Nobby's got 'is privates in a real two an' eight" Can't say I've ever suffered from 'em, but I couldn't help but remembering Nobby and his piles. He was a regular character in the golden days of Viz magazine in Britain.
