Ah...about that last rib I broke....

Well put. This kind of mutual 'simpatico' between people is earned, not given. It's called respect.

Ah...about that last rib I broke....

I know I've never experienced this level of ongoing pain, but there are alternative treatments that claim success for this type of thing. Have you ever tried a proper [usually Chinese] acupuncture doctor/provider? Here is Thailand it is fairly common, and I have to admit that it has worked...

Not all updates can be installed - Ubuntu 14.04 lts

That Chrome repo is full of constant problems. Cloasters had a similar one a few weeks ago. We decided to remove it as well.

I also saw the private window, but had no idea who you were under that nick.

I see you got there; I'm on the other side of the world, though, so I was most likely sleeping.

The IRC channel is OPEN: #GamersOnLinux [irc.OFTC.net]

The IRC channel is always open; I keep it that way. Unfortunately, it doesn't get the traffic I wish it would. I think it's a great way to talk to the folks here in real time. Maybe we can give it a kick start. It's at #gamersonlinux on OFTC: you need an IRC chat client to visit it, like...

    r9 m275x driver question

Predictions like the one about 640K being enough memory for all time are usually found wrong within the next 2 or three hours [or so.] Lolz. In fact, Bill Gates denies that he said that at all. I'm always interested in exotic, vintage gear like this stuff, that no one ever thought would be...

    r9 m275x driver question

I remember ALL of this stuff. Lolz. I also remember the memory management programs we used to run to fit games and such into the tiny memory capacities we had in DOS environments. EMM386 was the native, Microsoft DOS one, but QEMM was a third-party program, and I was a beta tester for that...

[News] Crytek Showing Off CryEngine On Linux At GDC

It's like Chris said. Linus started it as a hobby, and it became something that drew attention, and then it became a phenomenon. Established projects like GNU incorporated it into their project, Red Hat made a Corporate/Enterprise version that sold for actual dollars, and they recognized...

[News] Crytek Showing Off CryEngine On Linux At GDC

Linus didn't 'sacrifice' anything. I hate to burst your bubble, Daniel, but Linus is IMMENSELY wealthy because of Linux. Red Hat made him rich with stock options, and he draws a huge salary from the Linux Foundation. His net worth is in excess of $140 million. Don't think he's some pauper...

[News] Crytek Showing Off CryEngine On Linux At GDC

Remember that 'Linux' is only the kernel itself. The rest [the userland software] is most likely 'GNU'. There are several hundred distros currently, and not all of them are free [as in 'cost-free'], either. The Linux kernel was adopted by the GNU project, which pre-dated it by at least five...

Red X in Synaptic tray icon, Error in checkAPT.py

George; If you look at the 3rd image on that page I gave you, it describes the levels. When they say 'dangerous', it doesn't mean your box is going to blow up or something, it just means it's probably unsupported software that comes from a 3rd party repo, and it's possibly buggy. It's a...

Red X in Synaptic tray icon, Error in checkAPT.py

Guys, we should start new threads for any new problems now, methinks. This thread has gone the distance. Start threads for any new issues in 'Crashed' if it's a usability issue, and in 'Installing Linux' if it's, well, an install problem. This isn't for our benefit [meaning those involved in...

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=synaptic "security level" mint TL;DR: https://www.linuxmint.com/rel_daryna_b21.php Looks like the rule of thumb is to install 1-2-3, and ignore 4+5, because they most likely don't come from the 'official' repos.

Red X in Synaptic tray icon, Error in checkAPT.py

It's not. Ignore it. It's not an update, anyhow, it's just Gtk complaining about a cosmetic thing in the GUI that has been buggy for ages. Like I said, it's nothing, ignore it. Is there a compelling reason why you aren't installing the other 4 updates that are recommended?

Daniel, you're spreading a leeeettle bit of FUD here. Lots [most, I would say] of things users do in terminal aren't done as the root user. For example, anything in your home user directory [~]. You don't have to be root to do file manipulations there, list directories, copy, and move stuff...
