Microsoft Porting Visual C++ to Linux

Basically, this is Microsoft recognizing that 'the cloud' is the platform of the future, and AWS is still pretty much kicking everyone's butt. This is hardly surprising, given the fact that Amazon have been offering AWS since 2006 and MS didn't get into the cloud business until 2010. However...

Have you ever noticed something in its absence?

People would find new excuses to build cliques and exclude others. Realistically, as long as we think of ourselves in ANY way other than as equals, that's going to happen. Frankly, I can't see any way to prevent it. Nor do I think it's necessarily a bad thing. I don't want to live around the...

Keyboard with macros - work on ubuntu?

I can't find much on them, but if they actually emulate the functions in hardware then they should work fine. That's about all I can really say, unfortunately.

Keyboard with macros - work on ubuntu?

My son uses a Logitech keyboard on his system that supports macros, and it works fine. Which keyboard and mouse are you looking at?

    AMD Ryzen Discussion

Benches leaking out are showing 6C/12T CPUs. I'm really not understanding the economics of that CPU, but it looks like it's going to be a real thing. Benches are also suggesting that Ryzen should be able to OC to around 4.5 GHz on good air cooling. Not QUITE up to what KabyLake is doing...

Very slow mouse speed on Hexxeh Chromium build using VMWare

Take a look at the threads this user has started. NONE of them have been responded to by this user. In addition if you take the first couple of lines of text from each thread and Google it, you will find it posted elsewhere VERBATIM, in some cases YEARS earlier. Finally, take a look at this...

Have you ever noticed something in its absence?

I don't know any better way than, as Daniel said "Help the one in front of you". Lead by example. It's lonely at the front, and sometimes it really sux when you're the voice of reason in a sea of insanity. But just as the insanity started from a few small places and spread, so will the...

    AMD Ryzen Discussion

All AMD CPUs will be unlocked, per Lisa Su. Given that Ryzen is apparently neck-and-neck with SkyLake/KabyLake for IPC, then clock for clock they are about equal. Whether a 4.4 GHz AMD chip with 8 cores can match or beat a 4.8 GHz chip with 4 cores will really depend on the application and how...

Rumor mill is already churning hard on that one, saying that Project Scorpio (due out late this year) will have Ryzen/Vega.

    AMD Ryzen Discussion

Lisu Su and the AMD leadership have pretty much bet the company on Ryzen. Honestly, I didn't really see any of this coming until about August. Even then I was somewhat skeptical, but I've been following closely since then and I'm pretty optimistic, provided AMD can continue to execute. And...

Have you ever noticed something in its absence?

This was something I meant to address earlier and missed. Don't be afraid of grouping things. Our brains are not designed to process all of the enormous amounts of information that comes at us every instant; we simply lack the resources to keep up if we have to address EVERYTHING individually...

    AMD Ryzen Discussion

Interestingly, despite the fact that rumors indicate 4C and 6C chips, we aren't seeing any confirmed pricing for anything other than the 8C chips. This may actually be a strategic move on AMD's part to target Intel's high end, and force them to drop pricing on everything lower. I'm wondering...

Have you ever noticed something in its absence?

We are animals. Arguably the most intelligent on the planet, but still, ultimately, animals. Fear is a primal thing; it speaks directly to our animal natures and our primal need for survival. Get us sufficiently scared and you bypass our higher reasoning. It takes one hell of a lot of...

Have you ever noticed something in its absence?

I'm afraid I have to disagree. You don't get to be President by being stupid. I don't care how much you disagree with his politics, if you assume he's stupid and that the people he's surrounded by are stupid, you are going to continually misunderestimate him and what he is culpable of.
