Futher Tweaking of Mint 18.3 themes and settings

Great post and tutorial Daniel! I never thought about posting some of the typical day-to-day issues with Linux. Mint has come to be my favorite distro and Cinnamon my favorite environment. I know where everything is and how to tweak or administrate what I need done. Since Mint 16 they have...

Question for booman about playonlinux games

Sorry, Riders of Icarus is one of those games that will not run because of anti-cheat software. Wine isn't compatible with the anti-cheat software, so the game will never launch. I tested Riders of Icarus and never got past the launcher/updater client. So I had to play it in Windows. Its been...

Tweaking Mint 18.3 themes and settings

I don't really know... I mostly use the Win10 theme at this point and do not notice any huge difference with native games. The difference is so small that I don't notice any extra CPU usage on any of my PCs. They range from: Core2Duo -> AMD Phandom 3-core GeForce 550Ti -> GTX 1060 4 GB DDR3 ->...

    Firestarter Guide

Firestarter is a wave based First Person Shooter where you clear areas to move forward. Every time you move to a new arena a new weapon is available and a new enemy appears. Utilize the typical FPS arsenal: SMG's, Heavy machine guns, shotguns, rocket launchers and more. Follow my...

Tweaking Mint 18.3 themes and settings

Hmm, I didn't even notice. Its mostly decoration, so I'm not sure how that would use up additional CPU over any other theme? I have noticed in general, that Cinnamon has some extra over-head. Not enough to kill things, but I have tested games in OpenBox here-and-there and gained a few frames...

Panel set up in Mint 18.3

Its the low resolution on the laptop. If you have dual monitors the workspaces are extra wide. You don't even really need the buttons, you can switch them with: Ctrl+Alt+Left & Right Arrow Keys

    Turok (GOG) mouse speed issue

Awesome! I'm glad because any abandoneware version will be vanilla. GOG has a newer version with a new engine. So it should look and play much better.

    Turok (GOG) mouse speed issue

Oh, I'm sorry... I didn't fully understand what you were asking. Mobygames shows that it is Windows 95 compatible and Direct X 3 So feel free to go to Wine Configuration and select Windows 95 as the operating system Then install PlayOnLinux Packages: DirectX9 This is strange that GOG put...

Tweaking Mint 18.3 themes and settings

Yes, this is true. As you can see, each theme only has limited control to the Graphical User Interface. The themes can only change the appearance and scale of: Menu Panels Window decoration That is about it. So its true Windows-Aero doesn't really simulate the "aero" experience.

    Turok (GOG) mouse speed issue

I know that is a REALLY old game, so is there a mouse setting anywhere? There isn't much out there... there should be a config.cfg in the game folder. Look through it with Text Editor and maybe there is a mouse sensitivity setting in there? Apparently this is an OpenGL game, so you can't...

    Turok (GOG) mouse speed issue

There are a couple of mouse settings that might help. I noticed in most games the mouse is way too sensitive. So normally I lower it almost to the least sensitive in-game. This doesn't always work, but most of the time it does. I also always use the "Automatically capture the mouse in...

Tweaking Mint 18.3 themes and settings

I have been using the Windows7-Aero theme for a long time, but its no longer available in Mint 18.3 So I've been using the new Windows 10 theme and its very nice. In fact, you can make a few changes to the theme, like adding your own icon for the Menu or even migrate your old themes to the Mint...
