Real fixes for Spectre and Meltdown?

My Synaptic Package Monitor has a lot of 4.4~54-122 updates. It told me nothing about Kernel and Modules and they are not dated. This is confusing. Any elucidation about this would be greatly gracious and helpful.

Real fixes for Spectre and Meltdown?

It seems like AMD is really aware of these pita's, and is serious about addressing them. Intel has released many straight lies about "fixing the problems" of Spectre and Meltdown. These are SERIOUS problems. Thanks Intel, you're always the best of behemoths.

Real fixes for Spectre and Meltdown?

Fraid that some AMD processors have these security holes as well. I sincerely wish this wasn't the case! I want to use an AMD CPU in my next machine.

    Mint 15 RC

Dec 17, 2012. Oh, my SO bad. I don't know why I didn't "get" the date of this post. I'm very sorry, what a bonehead mistake.

Real fixes for Spectre and Meltdown?

Read that it's Spectre that isn't addressable, but Meltdown is. It's always something. Anyone have a clue?

    Mint 15 RC

Thanks, didn't know that Mint 18.3 is the latest. For me it wouldn't be a painless update. All the same, where does Mint 15 RC fit in, it's way out of whack, afaik.

Real fixes for Spectre and Meltdown?

Looks like we are stuck with the Meltdown insecurity in Intel CPU's from the last ten years. But Spectre is supposed to be addressable. But how? In easy to understand steps would be great. It would be fantastic if a Mint update has fixed this! But are we so lucky?

    Mint 15 RC

AFAIK, Mint 18.2 was the latest update for Mint. Don't know why Mint 15 shows up at all.

Hmm, 'fraid your avatar sits still at AOA, for me at any rate. As it was animated back when, it's a fantastic avatar. Hey, wait a minute, I find your post here amusing. But it's not really GOL related. Tsk.

PorPorMe's avatar at AOA was animated. It was one of the greats, I gotta tell ya! The past, the past, why would anyone go there? Maybe the present is too darn scary for words? Maybe because the political situation today seems worse than Grimm's Fairy Tales? Some of them were very scary, but...

If we had been born in Timbuktu we'd consider their local religion as normal. And probably would never have seen a computer. The horror, the horror!

"In the world but not of the world" is a mighty difficult feat. Christians are not the only religion to have this problem.

A very Merry Christmas to us all!

"The fact that we fail so badly...should be a reminder in itself." Well said, and very true. After three years in the clutches of the Catholic church as a lad, I lost most of my respect for Christianity. I still like many of their lessons in how to live right. Say no more.

I really don't know the diff between Canadian and domestic dancing girls--but I'm pretty sure that they do far more interesting things than the Rockettes do. Don't know if the Radio City Rockettes exist any more. They certainly grabbed this dirty old man's attention. I know, me so bad. It's...

No sweatski, I didn't take it personally. And corn flakes are SO filling. Why after eight bowls of them you feel stuffed! Not. My sense of humor doesn't make the entire audience laugh, please excuse unfunniness from the mind of Minolta (old camera commercials). I'm glad to read that you're not...
