Follow my step-by-step guide on installing, configuring and optimizing Confrontation in Linux with PlayOnLinux.

Note: This guide applies to the Steam version of Confrontation. Other versions may require additional steps.

    Tips & Specs:

Try SteamPlay before using this guide as Valve now uses a fork of Wine called Proton and should run most Windows games.

To learn more about PlayOnLinux and Wine configuration, see the online manual: PlayOnLinux Explained

    Installing Wine

    Click Tools

Look for the Wine Version: 1.6.2

    Go To: http://www.steampowered.com
    Click Install Steam
    confront01.png

Do not click "Install Steam Now"
It will automatically install Linux Steam. Since Confrontation isn't made for Linux, we will download the Windows Steam instead.
click "Windows" under the green button
    confront02.png

    Navigate to your desktop
    Click Save
    confront03.png

    Setup PlayOnLinux

    Launch PlayOnLinux
    Click Install

    Click "install a non-listed program"

    General Tab
    Arguments: -no-dwrite -no-cef-sandbox
This fixes the missing font and store problem
    confront31.png

Note: -no-dwrite only works if you launch Steam from PlayOnLinux. Steam is automatically set to launch when Windows starts, which means if you do a "Windows Reboot" from the Wine tab -no-dwrite won't execute. Just close Steam and try again.

    Click OK
    confront43.png

    Optimization & Resolution

    Click Menu
    confront44.png

    Click Option
    confront45.png

    Video Tab
Adjust Resolution to match Linux Desktop
    Adjust Quality

Note: Grass in outdoor areas will appear red with any quality but Very Low

    Click Close
    confront46.png

    Conclusion:
Other than the red grass in outdoor areas, the game ran well. Frame rates were great on my GeForce 550 Ti. Interiors looked amazing! If you don't mind the red grass, then leave the quality at Very High. Otherwise, lower it to Very Low until you get to the interior levels.

I know, just install the Steam through PlayOnLinux Packages, but I am trying to keep the guides consistent with eachother. I also don't know if PlayOnLinux devs update that package or not. I try to always get the installer from the source.

Ok, I watched the video, nice trick. I didn't realize there was a setting in Steam to disable it as well.
    Thanks
