We have been talking about newer game guides for GamersOnLinux.com What kind of new games would you like to see as a guide? I personally have leaning towards these new Free Online multi-player games because they will always have a larger user base cause of the cost... duh But there are a few newer AAA games that might get us some attention if we can run it in Linux with PlayOnLinux!!!
Company of Heroes 2 Grand Theft Auto V Metro Last Light Bioshock Infinite Tomb Raider Dishonored Far Cry 3
I havn't tried it yet, but as far as the posts on PlayOnLinux forums, many people have gotten it to run
I'm currently installing it, using the POL (last version) automatic install. I'll post feedback if you want.
I've just gotten the brand new incarnation of SimCity. I'm too busy right now to get on it, but later in the month I intend to try it out and see if I can get it to run.
World of Tanks definitely works, I've read many posts on PlayOnLinux forums about it. There is a huge community for it and I plan to test it.
Actually when I was playing Drakensang every day, I noticed there were a lot of Portugese speaking players. Brazil maybe? So I would run the game on one monitor and Google translate on the other monitor so I translate what they were saying to me and also translate what I wanted to say to them. Worked really good!
I tested world of tanks, with the new processor, and I have about 20fps details to max. If I put the details to average or low, the fps are... 20fps. The same. I don't know what to think. 20Fps for an action game is a bit low. I'll probably install the game on windows test drive to see if any diference.
I tested WOT on windows, on max settings the results are very similar to Linux (around 20fps). But on medium settings, the game is faster (around 35-40fps, when on linux it still 20fps). I believe there is some wine patch available for this game. I'll try it to see what happens.
Yeah try some of the PlayOnLinux Patched Wine versions for World of Tanks. I know it runs, but who knows if performance can be boosted or not? You could always try disabling GLSL
Booman, at the start of the thread you asked for suggestions about new games guides, but if at all possible I would like to ask you to take a look at the Call of Duty series. In particular I need help regarding the old Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare: until a couple of years ago it used to run very well on my PC, but not anymore. Basically there are graphical glitches when I shoot: I tried reinstalling it with vanilla Wine, PlayOnLinux, Crossover following every advice I found on Winehq and Ubuntu forums but without luck. Can you (or anybody else for that matter) help? Thank you.
Just an update. On post #2 Metro Last Light was listed among some possible game guides. Well, it is now native on Steam for Linux! And yes, I bought it a few minutes ago.
Dang, I don't have that one. Go ahead and post a new thread in PlayOnLinux about your gliches and what you have already tried to fix it. I will check WineHQ's and see how others have gotten it to run. Also post your debug output too!
Thanks Booman. I hope to be able to find some time the next weekend to reinstall the game using both PlayOnLinux and Crossover. No more vanilla Wine for me.
Oh, my Gosh! I don't know how you did it? I don't know how anyone does't it with Wine alone! Terminal this, Terminal that... just wow, way too much work
