    I love this song./ If we are speaking of an inward journey, well then this has been my life! ":O}

    "Palms Of Victory"

Then palms of victory, crowns of glory
Palms of victory I shall wear

I saw a wayward traveler in tattered garments clad
And struggling up the mountain, it seemed that he was sad
His back was heavy laden, his strength was almost gone
Ηe shouted as he journeyed, "Deliverance will come!"

The songsters in the arbor that stood beside the way
Attracted his attention, inviting his delay
His watchword being "Onward!" he stopped his ears and ran
Still shouting as he journeyed, "Deliverance will come!"

Then palms of victory, crowns of glory
Palms of victory I shall wear

I saw him in the evening, the sun was sinking low
He'd overtopped the mountain and reached the vale below
He saw that golden city, his ever lasting home
And shouted loud, "Hosanna! Deliverance will come!"

Then palms of victory, crowns of glory
Palms of victory I shall wear

A perfect example of a song that tucks away an entire novel.

Heaven Ain't Ready for You Yet
    Emmylou Harris
When they carried you into the parlor
Your wounds were the worst I'd seen
Cold as snow as your body trembled
Cradled in the arms of morphine
All the kinfolk cried out loud
    "Good Shepherd save this man"
But you whispered with icy breath
"It is not in His hands, " and you said
"Heaven ain't ready for me yet, " and you looked at me
"Give me your heart and take a bet, " and you held my hand
"Now I've seen your face, now that we've met
    "I shall not slip away"
    Mama said to me, "daughter
"You must nurse your cousin well"
So I cared for you through days and nights
But your fever I did not quell
For weeks I watched you suffer pain
    That no laudanum could ease
All I had left to do is pray
"Lord have mercy on him please, " and you said
"Heaven ain't ready for me yet, " and you looked at me
"Give me your heart and take a bet, " and you held my hand
"Now I've seen your face, now that we've met
    "I shall not slip away"
Now winter's lights has cooled the air
    At last your strength's returned
You talk to me of the life you spent
And of the life you've earned
You'll waste no time on vengeance
You've no wish to fight again
"To find peace, " you say, "In God we trust
    "But little faith in Man"
Heaven ain't' ready for you yet, Jesse
I'll give you my heart, I'll take a bet, Jesse
Now I've seen your face, now that we've met
    I shall not slip away

Edit: How are you coming along versus the weather, Dan? It finally stopped raining for a while today. Please let us know how mean the Green River can be. Or better, how mellow Mr River is? TIA, cloasters!

An old favorite band of mine that used to come to New Jersey from R.I. often to play at the shore venues in the 80s and 90s. You may have heard of John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, if not, have a listen:

And here they are, playing at the Stone Pony, a well-known club in Asbury Park, NJ. The club became known as 'The house that Bruce built' because of his frequent appearances there:

And another, the masters of the 'Jersey' sound: Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. These guys were the real deal, smoked all the juke joints on the east coast at around the same time as Beaver Brown and the Boss. And yes, that is Steve Van Zandt on guitar. He wrote a lot of the band's songs, before joining Bruce's band. Bruce also wrote several songs for this band, and recorded a couple of theirs! I've posted the Jukes before, but they deserve revisiting...

And many years later, still making rock 'n' roll, Steve's band, the Disciples of Soul, with Southside Johnny. As a reader commented, 'This is 2/3 of the New Jersey Holy Trinity of Rock and Roll':

Ahh, my misspent youth watching these guys *live* whenever I had a chance. Maybe not so misspent after all :)

And while I was perambulating around YouTube, I found this gem. To watch it completely, you'll need a hour, but it's worth it:

Never heard of John Cafferty and The Beaver Brown Band. I gotta tell ya, "Tough All Over" is a monster of a beauteous song. I love this one, it's wonderful to find that an unknown band can be so great. Thank you very much for posting this band!

Thank you ThunderRD! Heard Leon Russell for the first time when I played an acetate 45 that fell out of the album of something long forgotten in Georgia in 1971. Liked him immediately!
