I got a flat tire yesterday morning and ended up at Pep Boy Tire Repair. They were having some problems with the credit cart machine and had to reboot... this is what I saw upon reboot

I wasn't surprised Linux ran on this little device, but I am surprised Intel actually created an icon. Maybe it was someone else, but it looks just like the Intel icon.

So the kite and folded card in the upper left hand corner are an Intel design? Is it possible that Intel created the penguin? Confused, that's me.

Yeah I'm a bit confused as well.
Apparently Intel has an Operating System called MINIX
But if someone copied the Intel design its kinda risky because there could be a lawsuit with Intel.

I searched: Intel Linux inside logo
Found a bunch of similar logo's without the penguin... so who knows?

MINIX is an old Unix-like operating system which was actually one of Linus Torvald's inspirations for creating Linux, and his first work on Linux was being done on MINIX. As far as I know, there is no relation between Intel and MINIX. It was originally created under a proprietary license, but is currently released under a BSD similar license.

However, Intel has a Linux distro called Clear Linux, which has optimizations specifically for Intel CPU's. This distro does not use any variation of the logo in your post.

That particular variant of Tux is something I have seen many places, and some Linux distributions use it in favor of the traditional Tux image. And the "Linux Inside" logo is also something I've seen many places. I doubt Intel has anything to do with that, most likely someone just used Intel's logo as inspiration. Creating an image is one thing, but incorporating it as part of a released distribution is something else.

    As always, nice information!

Hopefully Intel won't make a lawsuit against the developers for copying their logo.
I love seeing Linux in small devices like this. Pretty cool!

Didn't think that Intel had anything to do with MINIX. But didn't quite remember where it came from. Thank you Daerandin!
