"MS PTS." I love that phrase! Too bad it's so true in my case.

    ASLR bypassable=security problem

Oh dear, I think I still have a hangover from my years of having to keep track of the hundreds of bugs and weaknesses that demanded attention in MS land. I'll endeavor to relax here in Linux land!

Baddies release potent dDos software for Iot.

Goodness! Dan, I think we will have to agree to disagree on the subject of Mr Putin. I refuse to follow in lock step with what's rammed down our throats by media that's totally in the service of the status quo. I go pretty far and wide in search of a neutral voice. The center has been dragged...

    ASLR bypassable=security problem

Flipping a few bits in Memory maybe could wreck an OS installation unless there's a simple fix. I really don't know how hard it would be to recover from such an attack. Or if any recovery short of wiping a hard disk and an OS re-installation is possible. Perhaps I see too much in these latest...

Baddies release potent dDos software for Iot.

As long as those at the very top can remain safe from the effects of the ultimate human folly I think that "pressing the button" is a possibility. I pray that sanity can prevail, without it the future looks bleak. It's plain to see that Mr Trump is around more than one bend. His chance of...

Baddies release potent dDos software for Iot.

Thank you very much for the much needed clarification, Gizmo! Some years ago there was a huge hack of Target which stole important CC information from many thousands of Target's customers. Who was blamed for this attack? Target, for poor security. Someone hacked the DNC's list of donors...

Baddies release potent dDos software for Iot.

The Internet of Things seems to benefit..who, really? So far I see no real good in the idea. Yet another avenue for DDOS attacks, I'm so happy! So far I see little evidence that the Russian government is responsible for the cyber attacks so swiftly attributed to it. I do not think that the war...

    Another long term dangerous flaw?

Now this is good news, thanks Gizmo! Linux is the best, who would want to argue with that?

Voting when seen as something Holy

I went with Bernie. I no longer go with Bernie. This monstrosity of an "election" is far beyond belief. Where's Rhonda when you need help?

    Another long term dangerous flaw?

Great news, thank you Daerandin! Yes, nine years is a mighty long time without a remedy or patch.

    Another long term dangerous flaw?

Hoo boy, yet another security issue. This one's nine years old and it's in the kernel. Please see: http://arstechnica.com/security/2016/10/most-serious-linux-privilege-escalation-bug-ever-is-under-active-exploit/

If only a lack of principles were attributable to Republicans alone. Sigh.

    ASLR bypassable=security problem

Thank you for this info, Gizmo! Wow, a change in hardware might be needed to address this kind of attack. I pray that no one (yeah, I know. Good luck with that) bothers to implement this kind of assault on our machines. Could you say that a successful implementation of this attack could "brick"...

Voting when seen as something Holy

I can't believe the way that The Trump snuck up behind Hilary's blind spot in such a menacing manner in the second debate. WTH, over?

Voting when seen as something Holy

Hoisted by his own petard. Or in Trump's case maybe that should be "retard?" I doubt that he is stupid but how much self-centered-ness can one person, oops, "person" have?

    Speaking of Music

That's a very interesting question, Gizmo. The first bass I acquired is a G&L L2000. It can be played with the active circuitry off or on. It's OK (and very clean without the active switched on. Active adds a bit of noise to the signal, btw. Maybe modern active basses don't give you that...

    Speaking of Music

I'm such a lazy slacker. I bought a bunch of 9 volt Duracell batteries from Costco five years ago for the purpose of keeping the two basses I have that require batteries happy. My bad, I finally bought five of the 9 volters, so they are fresh. I sincerely hope that neither of the old batteries...
