Yeah, I knew you didn't want to game...
I'm not sure what everyone hated about Gnome, but I use Cinnamon Desktop and it absolutely ROCKS!
I don't know if its based on Gnome?
Since I've mostly been a Windows users, Mint Cinnamon really makes the most sense. It has the Start Menu with categories...
Which version of Wine are you using?
Don't use the "default" because it will probably be an older version of Wine
Try downloading newer version with Tools, Wine Manager
Also, make sure to be on the newest version of PlayOnLinux: 4.2.8
One thing I do when installing PlayOnLinux the first time...
I've finally decided Mint is my favorite distro "hands down"!
I have played with Ubuntu a few times and end up frustrated because I can't find something.
Mint is great because they have themes where you can make the window decorations look like Windows 7
Mint also comes with a Driver Manager...
I'm glad you got the Nvidia Proprietary drivers installed. That will help with games a lot. Will the Neverwinter launcher appear and start downloading the game?
Where exactly are you getting stuck?
Interesting that Ubuntu does not know what to do with the Spiral Knights.bin
That is a Java...
Is your Ubuntu 15 the 64-bit version?
If yes, then make sure to install 32-bit libraries in order to play most games.
Let me know if you need help with installing them
Dang! That really sucks.
I originally tried Dead Frontier in PlayOnLinux but the Windows Firefox was so slow the page wouldn't even load. This is why I looked into Pipelight
What version of Firefox are you using?
I will have to spend some time trying to install Pipelight again and see if there...
The problem might be related to video drivers and hardware instead of the 32-bit libraries. One way to test the 32-bit libraries is to play an older game. Most games aren't even 64-bit compatible.
Try one of our guides that shows you how to install a free game like Drakensang or Spiral...
That is really frustrating
I had similar problems and it took some trial-n-error and guesswork to finally get it running properly. Then I tried to document the steps in the best order possible. Apparently there is still some mystery or something changed...
What version of Firefox are you...
Did you restart after installing these 32-bit libraries?
Yes Ubuntu removed the simple package ia32-libs, but running the command above installs all the libraries you would typically need.
If you use Linux Mint, they still support the ia32-libs package and it does everything for you
I had to do that on my Chromebook with Ubuntu 12
But Mint was able to make it executable without the terminal
Strange...
Glad you got it working, maybe I'll add those steps to the guide as well
If you are using a 64-bit version of Linux, make sure to install the 32-bit libraries.
Are you able to play any other games in Linux?
Open your Synaptics Package manager, search for ia32-libs
Mark it for installation and apply it.
From what I have read online that seems to only apply to OEM activations. I'm using a volume license...
Either way, I'm very tempted to remove dual boot since VM is working so well.
Thanks for posting, I initially had a lot of problems as well because there was no clear identifier that everything installed correctly.
Do you see Unity Player in the Firefox plugins list?
Are you still getting the "Install Now" screen for Unity?
Did you start with the Windows 7 ISO?
You should be able to open the image with VirtualBox and start installing windows
What I found is that OEM versions of Windows can only be activated once on any computer. VM or no VM, can only be activated once.
OEM's are those stickers on the side/bottom...
