Yeah!!! Love that cooler!
Video card seems a bit tiny, maybe its the angle
Most of my GeForce 550 Ti's are dual slot cards.
I love all the black in there. Glad you got an ATX board. Plenty of room for expansion.
Does that board support SLI and Crossfire?
Finally downloaded Rage and tried it out.
For some reason it crashes right at the beginning when I'm riding in the buggy after we pass some bandits.
It will freeze.
I have been scouring the internet looking for this symptom and WineHQs says something about xact_June2010
I'm guessing you didn't...
What if Steam were to use Wine in their Linux Steam client to run nonLinux games as well as Linux games?
Just like PlayOnLinux, but the interface is all in Steam
PlayOnLinux is just an interface layer that utilizes Wine and its functionality.
I'm sure Steam devs would be able to do the same...
If you install a Steam game via scripts, the overlay is already disabled in Wine libraries.
But since most of our guides are manual installations, you have to disable it manually.
Yeah, I will have to do that as well.
Thanks for the Tip.
I'm also going to try unchecking "Enable Steam Community in-game" in Steam and see if that helps.
Sucks because that overlay is pretty cool and allows you to chat with friends, upload screenshots and more...
Oh my gosh! That was it!!!
Its that stinking overlay for chatting and community.
Crap! I'm definitely staying away from Steam right now.
I hope this eventually stops because I can't keep posting "work arounds" to make games run.
Seriously?
This is Bad
I may have to stay away from Steam games for now because they are breaking PlayOnLinux scripts and my Guides.
I'll try it an report back here
Ok, is it me or is Steam still having some problems?
I updated to Mint 16 64-bit and cannot play Borderlands 2 or Rage.
I thought it was 64-bit so decided to start over and install 32-bit Mint 16 and still having problems.
I can run native Linux games (tested Costume Quest and Portal)
But using...
In a way I agree. You would think Wine developers and support would do anything to keep us coming back, but I've seen a lot of evidence that the "purity" of Wine is more important. What I mean is Wine should only do what they intend it to do and that is all.
Seems to be the mentality because...
The Alpha 15 has been release for Linux and is named Osiris
Check out some of the new features in the free open source Strategy game 0 A.D.
Alpha 15 Osiris
Linux Instructions
Yeah I remember that. Maybe it was you who told me about those Origin problems.
I'm guessing the problem is these clients are always updating because of security, DRM and compatibiltiy which means Wine devs need to keep updating as well.
There are just too many to keep track of:
Steam
Uplay...
Exactly! My stepfather could come over and download all the GOG games he wants, then install them at home without internet.
I love DRM free too. Just so easy!
I haven't tried yet, sounds like you have?
Dang, I was hoping Wine would patch 1.6 because they are claiming it to be the "stable" version.
I just downloaded Wine 1.7.10 this morning. Maybe 1.8 will be the new "stable" whenever it comes out
Except any games that don't run in Wine 1.7.8 or newer.
There are a few games that refuse to run on newer version of Wine.
Kladiator has a good point. If you mostly play single-player campaigns and just want to stay offline... its pretty difficult these days. Even most retail games have some...
Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to avoid Steam updates. You can always play in offline mode, but you can't install any new games.
I create a new virtual drive for every Steam game. This means I have multiple steam virtual drives.
So you could install Steam, install your game, update...
Daerandin, I will be installing Steam tomorrow and testing games this weekend.
If it wasn't for my Mint 16 install I could have already tested a few games, but I'm almost there.
I havn't seen anything on the PlayOnLinux forums yet, but I'll keep checking.
I hope it isn't a Steam update because...
Samsung SSD 120Gig:
swap - 5 Gig
\ - 125 Gig
Normally I would have separated the home directory or even a "games" directory, but since I'm mostly testing games and then uninstalling, its not a big deal. I back up everything to my Fedora server.
Windows 7 250Gig:
Wifes partition - 70Gig
Win &...
