I don't normally launch the games exe because it requires Steam to be running. Looks like you are doing everything right.... Try some of those older versions of wine Install d3dx10 and d3dx11 just in case

Try the Direct Draw Renderer setting and also test with other versions of Wine. You would be surprised how Wine versions can affect a certain game. Try these versions: 1.6-rc4 1.6 1.5.25 1.5.18 1.4.1

Oh, did you set Direct Draw Renderer to opengl? Check your Configure Display settings
