Installing a desktop environment just for gaming.

Yes, please post the code you are using for all of your changes. I tried using Openbox for 5 laptops with some old games. It was fun to customize the desktop with shortcuts to the games and launching Steam/PlayOnLinux automatically.

    Update

Wow, I can't imagine... really I can't. The most pain I have endured is sciatic pain from a pinched nerve in my lower back. Any time I sat, there was piercing pain down my butt and right leg... ironically what do I do all day? SIT Advil didn't help Muscle relaxers didn't help Stretching didn't...

Problem with installing the GPU (AMD)

If there is no proprietary driver available, then it means you are using the open-source driver. I've read many times that the open source driver is just-as-good or even better than the AMD driver. So you might want to do some tests before attempting a manual installation. Here is a "How-To"...

    Update

I love your attitude Daniel! When the trials come its hard to "see the light" at the end of the tunnel, but its there. Some people never see it. You endured day by day, and hour by hour... Physical pain is hell to endure but you stuck-it-out and get to reap the blessings. I know prayers were...

[News] Crytek Showing Off CryEngine On Linux At GDC

Once again Linux gamers get "jipped" and won't see another AAA title. Our only hope is Wine and DirectX 10/11 support. At least the list for DirectX 10/11 games is fairly small compared to DirectX 9 games. But more and more newer games are starting to only support Windows 7, 64-bit and DirectX...

Installing a desktop environment just for gaming.

Isn't that cool? If you want to change the resolution you can use: xrandr -s 1600x1200 This is great for older games that do not support widescreen resolutions. I rarely use Openbox since I have an SSD drive and Geforce GTX 950 But its still pretty cool, less resources and very simple interface...

Problem with installing the GPU (AMD)

Did you try the driver manager first? I know it doesn't provide the newest AMD driver, but it will provide a stable one (if there is such a thing from AMD). Otherwise you will have to do a manual installation. I've tried this a few times in the past and always had a problem if something went...

Disk hard drive doing strange and un-usefull things

Strange that Mint see's the drive as PRAM. Is this an old spare drive you are trying to use? You don't have to mount it to format it, the disk utility only has to see that its plugged in. But something is not properly recognizing the drive as a hard drive. Was it a Mac drive? Maybe its encrypted?

    Update

Holy crap, you have really suffered Daniel! I'm sorry your pain can't be managed properly with the right drugs. I don't know how you and your wife do it... I've been praying for you off and on the last 4 years. I will continue praying of course! Nothing better than the hand-of-God to comfort...
