You Suck At Parking Demo in Proton

  • 2,493
  • 0
You Suck At Parking is a clever driving puzzle game where you have to overcome obstacles in order to park your vehicles. Sound simple? No... its not! Fly over jumps, launch through explosive thrusters, fight against huge fans and get lost in the deep water. Everything rendered in beautiful island-esque cartoon world with perfect physics for your entertainment and frustration. Failing is an option, then you can just give it another go!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/837880/You_Suck_at_Parking/

You Suck At Parking demo runs fine in Proton until you load the menu or another level. Its seriously an issue with Proton and Unity 3D or Unreal Engine games. I've never had this problem until recently yet all of my other Wine games and native games run fine! I recently posted GOG's Wolfenstein New Order and it runs perfectly!
But most indie games are made in the previously mentioned engines and now I'm having issues...

Here is a...

Assassin's Creed Origins in Proton

My previous post on Assassin's Creed Origins regarded Discovery mode where you can explore and learn about Egypt, Greece and the Roman Empire. This is a non-violent way to play, explore, climb and learn.

Assassin's Creed Origins is much more than just exploring, there are complex stories of murder, traitors, foul-play and much more. Traverse the wide variety of terrain in the middle east as you fight soldiers, hide in the shadows, slay crocodiles, fight in an arena, stealth execute officers or escape by the skin-on-your-teeth.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/582160/Assassins_Creed_Origins/

I've spent over 90 hours revealing the entire map of the middle east, completing main quests and side quests... and there is still much more to do and explore. There is easily over 400+ hours of gameplay here and it pays off!
Initially Origins ran pretty well in Proton 5.0-10 with my GeForce GTX 1060... but later on I started getting some...

SuchArt in Proton

SuchArt Creative Space is a free-to-play sandbox artist game! Create custom paintings on canvas using brushes, rollers, palette knife, smudge tool, spray paint and even a pain gun. Receive requests from customers and receive money to buy new painting gear. That's not all... you can pain any surface in the game, create custom size canvas and interact with any object. Make a mess of your whole studio... who cares? Just have fun!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1469280/SuchArt_Creative_Space/

Proton handles SuchArt pretty good... every once in a while there is a stuttering-effect while painting but its tolerable. The only thing I'm not happy with is the lack of tablet support. As an artist, I would love to use my tablet and actually paint detailed art instead of abstract shapes. I assumed that my Wacom tablet (which acts just like a mouse) would work, but once the game is launched it doesn't. Stuck with painting only using...

https://store.steampowered.com/app/310370/The_Way_of_Life_Free_Edition/

Each scenario is about real life situations and your goal is to find a solution or choice to continue. Some are mostly mini-games where you have a goal to achieve.

No issues on my system.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein as Blazkowicz again, but this time with stunning visuals, new electrifying weapons and enemies... Defeat the Nazi order and walk into the sunset... Wait no! That not what happens... after storming the castle you wake up in an asylum in 1960. Nazi Germany has won!

I tested the GOG version of Wolfenstein New Order in PlayOnLinux and surprisingly runs perfect with stable Wine 6.0 64-bit. I added the standard overrides and vcrun2019. It started up perfectly, cutscenes work and the frame rate is beautiful! I cranked almost everything up to high and my GeForce GTX 1060 handles it nicely.
Reports on protondb.com are equally the same!

Stellar Overload in Linux

Stellar Overload is a crafting, harvesting, story-based action game in the same vein of Minecraft. Each planet is a massive cube and gravity falls according to each side of the cube. Find your brother in the resistance, mine for resources to craft your weapons, protect the colonies from the evil robots and build your own structures.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/397150/Stellar_Overload/

Sadly Cubical Drift left this game in eternal beta. It is a crowdfunded game with some epic goals, one of which is a Linux version. I was able to play natively in Linux without any issues. I could crank up the graphics and view distance to almost high and play with a decent frame rate. Too bad its no longer for sale on Steam.

Company of Heroes 2 begins at the Russian front during WWII with real-time RTS combat. German forces are pushing forward and your troops must advance or die. Control your units and take cover, attack with true line-of-sight firefights, use tanks, cannons and other vehicles to obliterate your enemy. Recruits are ready to drop-in and flank the enemy!

In Steam Company of Heroes 2 ran perfectly in Linux. At first I thought there was a problem with audio, but realized that my surround system had to be set for stereo. The surround settings in-game do not seem to work, but stereo is fine. I didn't have any other issues!

Prepare to upgrade your character with special abilities and useful tools to slay your enemies faster and level up.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/308600/Geneshift/

The developers of Geneshift provide us with a great native Linux version and it plays beautifully. I was able to pick up Geneshift during a sale and got a few extra copies for my family. For the most part it is a typical twin-stick arcade shooter, but you can choose a bunch of upgrades depending on your level and how many coins you have. You can also drive cars-n-shoot or fly up or across buildings with jump-pads. In-game there are many NCP merchants who want to sell you stuff like grenades or ammo...

Portal I & II in Linux

I started re-playing Portal I & II with my oldest daughter. We are taking turns for every puzzle and its like a co-op experience... a lot of fun! Play as an unfortunate test experiment unit who is forced to go through rigorous and dangerous facilities where your body is thrown into portals across levels for cake. But is there really cake? You'll see...

In Portal II you will re-visit the original testing facility but with a new twist... your test moderator is bitter and angry, now she is punishing you and creating new portal experiments to torture even further. But something is wrong with the facility and everything is falling apart...

Portal I & II ran perfectly in Linux as Valve ported them years ago... I was able to crank all the video settings to HIGH and play without any performance issues on my GeForce GTX 1060. Both game are designed with dramatic lighting and lots of eye candy and animation. I love these games!

Terminator Resistance in PlayOnLinux

Terminator Resistance is yet another chapter in the epic story of a post apocalyptic world ruled by robots. This time you join a resistance in a war torn world, looting, crafting, sneaking and cleverly taking down machines to survive. First impressions are comparing Rage and Fallout series as the game is fairly linear but full of story, NCPs and exploration.

https://www.gog.com/game/terminator_resistance

I've only played a few hours at this point, but it runs pretty well with all the settings on epic and 1920x1080 on my GeForce GTX 1060. There is a base I arrived at and it started to slow down considerably, but still playable. When going out to explore it runs perfectly. This is an Unreal Engine made game so it required vcrun 2019 and Media Foundation installed. I had to skip some of the intro scenes, but in-game cutscenes ran fine.

One True Hero demo in Proton

One True Hero is a zelda-like platform action game with a clever adventure story. Play as a typical hero who is returning home, but finds his hometown in chaos. People are trying get on with live despite their town slowly falling into an underground abyss. Trick jump and climb your way around the town and slay mysterious minions.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1596170/One_True_Hero/

One True Hero is developed by a single person and has many polished features of an epic indie game. I was able to play in Proton without any issues. I reached out to the developer on reddit with hopes of a native port, but its hard enough to develop a Windows port in Unity by yourself. There may be a chance of a native port in the future, but until then, enjoy the free demo with Proton.

Elteria Adventures Alpha

Elteria Adventures is a minecraft-sandbox clone with high poly characters and monsters. Explore massive floating islands, mine for resources and craft your hearts desires. At night skeletons appear and the passive creatures become hostile. The alpha Linux version is currently free and you can join huge online islands with your friends.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/744200/Elteria_Adventures/

The current Alpha edition runs very well in Linux. I initially noticed the audio was pretty quiet and thought that it wasn't working, but turn it up and all the sound effects are there. Also, there is a bug where you use the teleportation device and end up in the same location... but if you quit the game and restart, you will transport to the new location. Other than that, it runs great and is pretty dang fun! I've played Minetest for years with my family and co-op is always funner because you can mine, craft and fight together...

Death Trash is an 8-bit retro action RPG inspired by classics like the Fallout series. Your character begins in a vault-ish base where robots protect the un-infected. Hellpoint is a sci-fi dark-souls-inspired hack-n-slash action exploration game.

A ship appeared from a mysterious worm-hole and every living being is dead. You were created to find out what happened in the worm-hole. Explore a creepy ship swarming with hellish creatures and robotic guardians wanting to slay you at every corner. Your character is some kind of avatar or empty shell which you control to explore the ship and find out what really happened. As you progress, your character can be fully customized with abilities, skills, armor and weapons.

https://www.gog.com/game/hellpoint

Hellpoint on GOG provides us with a native Linux version. It ran perfectly on Mint 20.1 64-bit and my GeForce GTX 1060. But I had crashing issues on Mint 19.3 64-bit and GTX 950. I'm pretty sure its related to a version of Vulkan and continue to troubleshoot the issue. I wanted to play co-op one two local computers.

Fallout 76 in Proton

Fallout 76 is a new chapter exploring the wastes of Appalachia. But this time you are not alone... the world is full of online players in this post apocalyptic MMORPG. Survive in a world very similar to Fallout 4 and experience random player encounters as you slay new minions in new epic environments ranging from New York to Alabama and Georgia. Level up your character and equip new skills for you and your team.

I was able to play Fallout 76 during a free weekend on Steam. After researching on ProtonDB.com it was recommended to use Glorious Egg Rolls version of Proton. Performance wasn't great at first. I had to crank down the display settings just to get a barely playable frame rate. But a gamer mentioned changing a setting in a configuration file. This made a significant difference in performance. Now I could play, but some of the display settings had to stay on medium... like shadows.

There were a few streaming/loading glitches...
