Peer pressure ( Mainly boredom )Has "made" me download Mint 18.3.I imagine I'l install it on my #2 machine, the one I have dedicated to Fah@Home.
It might take a few days. I need to be in the right frame of mind to wrestle with that besides I feel a little guilty (.01%) over beeing the only !00% windows user on a Linux board! Not polite.

I love using Linux and since gaming is now supported, I use Linux for everything (except at work)!

Boredom has pushed many a good man to many a good deed.
    OK not really.

But you should be encouraged by one and all for this is a good thing you do.
Here's what I'll give you if you go Mint. I'll make it so you never have to buy a piece of software again...Ev-er!
    Free software for life!!

I'll let you design a desktop full of color and the joys of life!
I'll send you updates before you know you need them and you will know splendor!

You my friend you will never have to wipe your drive and start over. From this day forth until for-ev-er
Mint will take your old all used up code and replace it with sparkling bits and bites of organized
    perfection.

You will have a place at the Mint table and won't have to eat MS off the ground ever again! And you will be qualified to Send Billy boy a letter outlining how happy you are to be costing Bill money!
In my letter I asked Bill to start giving away MS products as the better software people do.

What I can't give you is a decent explanation of Greed.

For I am Mint and Mint knows no greed.

Just don't bother me with questions! LOL

I'm not afraid to ask questions when needed-Problem is I like to figure out things for myself. That way you realy learn it.
That and all it does is run F@H. So I'm not going to be installing a bunch of stuff. Will have to ck back in AOA for installing F@H on Linux.I don't expect a lot of problems.

Greed is a leftover from our terrible 2's. where what is mine is mine-what is yours is mine-and don't touch mine!
We don't get the concept of "yours" untill 3 or 4.and then it's too late. We are greedy little bastards for life!

Couldn't sleep this morn so got up about 3 and decided to install Mint on my #2 rig. Had a few hiccups but I finialy wrestled it to
it's knees. Took me long enough! Sheesh! 4 hours!
I got F@H Chrome client running.
    Success!
Think I'll reward myself by having a pancake for breakfast.

How smooth was the Mint install?
Did you let it automatically partition everything for you or did you do it manually?

    Thats fine.
By default Mint will partition like this:
    • swap (virtual memory)
    • / (root which contains all the OS files and your /home which is like C:\users)
Here is a nice guide that walks you through installing in detail:

This guide show you how to manually partition your drive to look like this:
    • /boot
    • /var
    • /
    • /home
    • swap

As an experiment I disabled my swap file. I have plenty of ram (16 gigs) and have not noticed the difference at all. It's been around three months now.

This is the design goal of Mint. That relatively inexperienced persons can download it and teach themselves (experimentation,(click on this and see what it does.)) enough to get by and start to learn the rest.

    So...How are they doing Por Por? Sounds like you got by and are well on the road to learning the rest. ":O}
