Hi, As the title says I have compiled a list of games i own and have successfully got working in playonlinux, hope it gives people a good hand.

Games with xinit in brackets are usually games that demand a 16 bit display to run
Any games with a resolution in brackets require a display to change to that resolution before running probably some bug still in it as far as screen resolution is concerned

I have fully updated my list now, hope it helps some people find the right wine engine for slightly older games :)

I would like to know how you were able to install Star Wars Episode 1 Racer (#329).
Every time I try the installation crashes, even with Wine 1.5.0 which is the one you used.

On Winehq a guy talks about the need of a no-cd crack and a registry edit, without explaining exactly what he did.

And by the way, welcome to the forum!

No CD-Cracks sometimes work at best... but I try to stay away from them.
As long as I own the game I'll download one so I don't have to keep installing from Disk.

Normally they are an exe that has been modified and you just download it and put it in the same directory as the games exe. Always backup the original exe first.

Do you think you could post this list online instead of a .zip attachment.
I don't want to give the impression that there are viruses in a downloaded compressed folder.
You know how skeptical people can be.

I vetted the attachment before I approved the post. However, it would be more convenient, I think, if it were posted inline.

I would have posted it online and apologise for not doing it. As for the Star Wars Episode 1 Racer that may (I cant remember) have required a virtual machine with windows on it to install to then manually transfer the installation directory to Linux (through shared files in virtualbox) and export the Windows registry file too and transfer across then copy to the same location in your wineprefix and import the exported registry into your wineprefix. Episode 1 Racer does need a special exe downloaded to which is available at the Lucasarts website even today

Unfortunately Star Wars Episode 1 Racer looks to be another "crysis game" that just won't run.
Too many graphical glitches and requires a No CD crack.
I would test it in different versions of wine first and then give up for now.

Well using the 1.5.0 engine after using a workaround for the installer and the white screen fix it works for me in Ubuntu 13.10 the sounds is a little scratchy but it works ok. Screenshot attached

The sad thing is that it worked very well on Wine 0.9.something.
I remember many years ago I could play this game on Linux and not on Windows XP!:D
Then I discovered that on XP it was necessary to use the w95 compatibility mode to install it.

Nice, where did you find the game Bladeforce?

I'm guessing it doesn't run in DosBox correct?

Cool, I have done that too.
Copy everything off the CD and then install from a folder.
I normally do that with Multiple-CD games so I don't have to keep swapping CD's during the installation.

I find playonlinux very good for my old windows games collection (on a whole) There are lots of my games that still struggle but I keep working away with new versions of Wine. I make custom icons for each shortcut then use a program called "drawers" to display menus for all my installed games. An example is attached in a screenshot

    Hey Sam n Max!
I have Starsky and Hutch too!
Wow, so many games I haven't heard of...
So you have all of these games installed at the same time?
I like the sounds of Drawers in this scenario... makes sense if you have 20-50 games installed

I have more like 400 games installed each in their own wineprefix :) The folders with squarish icons at the top of the screenshots have multiple games within them and all are custom shortcuts run from a command line prompt. I have over a thousand PC games all bought over the years but altogether I have about 10,000 videogames from systems ranging from Commodore 64 to Playstation, PC, Amiga, Dreamcast, SuperNES....The games i have bought all have their own custom icons/shortcuts created for example my SNES game Donkey Kong Country i run through Snes9x from a command line.
I am thinking I may start coding a menu launcher similar to what OSX has in launchpad just for this. I dont know yet, have to see if I can find the time

    400 games installed?!? I don't even....

How do you find the time to play so many games? I barely have the time to play my few favorites. You can safely call yourself a gamer in the truest sense of the word.

    Holy Moses!
    That is GREAT!
You must have several Terabytes in that machine.
How the heck do you back up?

Dude we need you here at GamersOnLinux!!!

What do you think about doing some guides?
Doesn't have to be just games... it could be for Linux optimization, or Linux desktop managment, etc.
I've even been thinking about doing some Dedicated Game Server guides too.
Just anything you can offer to help Linux with Games
