Flash Player for Linux

I was wrong, Adobe didn't give up on us!
Yay!!!

Flash Player 11.2.202.310 is now available for Linux Distributions.

Hopefully it will allow us to play Facebook games again.
I was getting that error "your flash plugin needs to be updated" and time I tried to run certain games.

Those big companies are starting to take notice!

That is the one in the Ubuntu 13.04 software center too.

I remember reading on the arch wiki that only the chromium browser will actually see a continually updated flash player from adobe, the pepper flash player. People like me, who use Firefox, will either have to hope that Adobe change their policy on this, or even better that either Gnash or Lightspark (the two open source alternatives) become good enough to really be a viable alternative.

I happen to like Firefox and do not want to change to chromium just for flash support.

I could have sworn Adobe said that for the last version.
We'll see if Chrome keeps up with it.
I use Chrome for everything and still have problems playing Flash games.

Firefox installs just fine.
Flash on the other hand does not. I get a crash each time.
I'm referring to the newest Flash 11.9
I noticed in the debug that there were a lot of errors for wininet
So I installed those libraries and some of the errors went away, but every time I try to install the downloaded flash installer it initialized install then does nothing during "retrieving files"
Then it says "Actionlist not found"

I did find a direct link to the flash player its-self and am downloading now.
Hopefully this will skip the downloader.

Ah, that worked!
I tried a game on Facebook and it claims my graphics driver needs to be updated.

Right now I'm playing Jurassic Park Builder and its really slow

I did a manual installation of Unity. It tries to update, but fails. So this is why he had a custom update...

ok, I got Unity installed by downloading it with Chrome in Linux first, then installing with PlayOnLinux.
But it won't update. If you click details the error shows you the updated .zip its trying to download.

So I used Chrome again to download this .zip
But I had to figure out where the files go because there are a few dll's and no executable.
I found Unity Player here:
/home/booman/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/firefox/drive_c/users/booman/local settings/application data/Unity/Webplayer/player/Stable3.x.x

So I extracted the files there, but Unity still tries to update.
Not exactly sure if this is the correct place to put them.
I wonder if its a permissions problem when they get downloaded automatically?

I wonder if it unzips the update itself? Like if you put the .zip file in that location and try again maybe it wont try to download it and it will unzip and apply it?

Probably, but where does the zip download to? Temporary Internet Files?
I also noticed in drive_c/users/booman/local settings/temp there is a Unity folder with the exact same files in it.
So I think it downloads to Temporary Internet Files, then extracts to Temp and then copies to the Stable3.x.x folder
What a pain to update.
I wonder why firefox can't do it all by its-self?

Maybe the WINE windows install can't handle the .zip file. Compatability with .zip files is built into Windows now but probably not in WINE windows. It may not be able to unzip it?

You are probably right.
I've been reading on WineHQ's and several people have posted the same problem.
Turns out this is a problem in Windows too.
One person suggested the work-around that I already did.

I don't mind downloading the update from the video, but when Unity releases a new version where am I going to get it?
I prefer to get the updates from Unity instead of a 3rd party.

I'll try a few more things. At least flash player is running fine.
I also read about Chrome's pepperflash.
Basically their own version of Flash Player. If Google keep updating it even though Adobe doesn't, maybe they will continue support for Linux so we don't have to run Firefox in Wine.
