Multiple Install CD's

I have run into a few multiple cd game install issues with PlayonLinux. The first cd goes as it should. But the second won't go. It appears in Linux Mint the cd has to be ejected and the next cd inserted. Doing this causes POL to crash, the game crashes, or nothing happens.
Has anyone dealt with multiple cd installs with success? If so, I need a clue.
 
What I've been doing is ripping the cab files to a single folder and installing from folder instead of from the CD. I would give you instructions but They are on my Machine and unreachable until I get a new CPU. Boo taught me how to do this. I'll send him your way! ":O}
 
yup, not sure why PlayOnLinux doesn't see the newly mounted CD/DVD when you swap, but it just doesn't.
I've spent a lot of time trying to force PlayOnLinux to see each CD and it really doesn't.
So, Instead.... any game with multiple disks should be copied to a folder on the desktop.

Normally you won't need every single file from every disk, but there is usually some kind of compacted file that the installer looks for when installing.
ex:
  • .cab
  • .zip
  • .dat
  • .pak

So normally I copy everything from the first CD/DVD, then I copy only the compacted files.
Sometimes there is a media folder or some thing with videos & other media, those have to be copied too.
 
If your unsure check back here and ask...Works very well and once you rip them very fast! ":O}
 
Not only that, back them up on your external drive, server or NAS
Then you will never need a CD/DVD again!
 
Wine 1.4.1 is the most stable, but I found that 1.5.25 is really good too!
Just remember not to install dotnet in 1.5 or later. It automatically uses Mono and they can conflict.

I just put it in my main folder while I work from it, then cut and paste it to an extension drive I use for all my downloads and ripped games.
 
I always put the game folder on the desktop. Then when I'm done installing, I delete it.
If the game requires the CD/DVD to be in the drive, you'll still have to insert it later to play.
As far as I know, you can't play from a folder on the desktop.
 
I dropped the folder into the virtual "gameName" directory so it would be easy to find. I did get a game to install but would not play. Not to worried about that game for now. Just did it to experiment.
 
you don't even have to do that.
But now that I think about it, a few of my games were installed in Windows like Return to Castle Wolfenstein and don't need a CD/DVD in the drive. So I can copy the folder anywhere and still play it.
Those types of games HAVE to be copied into your virtual drive in Program Files.
Then you just make a shortcut to the .exe
You don't have to actually install them at all.
Other games like Quake, Blood, Doom II, Duke Nukem 3D, etc.
