So is this happening? Is AMD going to be competitive with Intel again?

Seems to me that Intel has clearly already lost the race. AMD's CPU's and GPU's are simply farther ahead. Intel hasn't any CPU that actually matches perfectly with a video card afaik. AMD's CPU's, generally speaking use half of the power, feature easily visible performance increases and cost half as much. With a 7nm die size--what is there not to love?

Intel's purposely engineered core insecurities alone simply isspay me offpay.

Personally I'd give AMD 1 in 10 chance of overtaking Intel.Just look at Intel established user base. Look at what Intel a can afford to give away. Not to mention the fact that this race is not being run on a single chip and/or chip set.

As I see this AMD would have to establish superiority over a two or three year period to convince the business world to switch over to AMD mother boards and chips

AMD has consistently failed to do this even when they were at their height of popularity..

    But this world is vast and there is much I do not know.":O}

You know what? Screw Intel. AMD is a tiny company compared to the Goliath of Intel. I say buy AMD processors and GPU's while they are clearly superior to Intel's efforts. I may be wrong but I see Intel worship in post #6. Weren't we standing together in the pre-dawn chill in Seattle for a chance to acquire a free Sledgehammer?

AMD's latest CPU's have no or a very little susceptibility in core insecurity. Intel built that weakness into its CPU's ON PURPOSE for a decade or almost. C'mon give some credit where it's due.

George you really must stop ascribing to me your thoughts. I said nothing for nor against Intel or AMD.
I spoke only of their relative position in the market place. As that IS all that matters.

I could have the best chip and the best chip set the world has ever seen and still die in poverty.

AMD and intel would conspire together to make sure it never saw the light of day. Until they had acquired the rights to said chip.
Have you any idea of how many non computer companies are invested in Intel?
Me neither! but I bet it's a whole big bunch.

user wise in my life time the only reason to go Intel or AMD was to get an unlocked chip.
As they both want the same thing from me, money and they both want every dime they can get from me I see ZERO difference between them.

To think of one of them as good and one of them is evil when they both do the same thing the same way is... thoughtless at best.

Next time I annoy you I would appreciate it you left your speculations as to who or what I worship out of accounts. especially as you've given this so little thought.

Just so you know I take person offense at your having done so. it was both uncalled for and a cheep shot.

I deserve better from you. You deserve better from you.

Just a brief misunderstanding between friends.
The I Ching says of friends:

In the long run these misunderstandings are unavoidable.
Bur so long as both parties are sincere they are a quickly passing matter and soon forgotten

What were we talking about anyway? ":O}.

I think AMD could have been far more competitive with Intel in the PC realm, if it had chosen to.

But, I can imagine they have been doing a lot of good business producing chips for the Xbox and Playstation.

Highly likely that they conspire in secret and agree not to screw each other too hard.

Maybe. Intel has a far larger collection of chip designs, licences and patents, and as a result has been able to play games with its form factors, chip designs etc. to prevent AMD from completely eating its breakfast.

Probably more a case that x86 and x86_64 are now a bugger's muddle of different licences and patents, with each licensing technology off the other. Short of fully acquiring the other (which the SEC might get sniffy about, even if one manages to bankrupt the other), they ultimately have to work together.

Yes, and Intel did make a 64-bit system--but not for the masses. AMD was far faster with releasing 64-bit designs that benefited millions and millions. Sorry, I'm not an Intel fan at all these days.
