Nvidia to publish Open GPU documentation. Has hell frozen over?

Big, *big* news here, people...this could be a big step in the right direction to get Nouveau on track, and getting a *proper* open-source driver written for Nvidia GPUs. Nouveau shows promise, but for 3D, it simply isn't viable. Yet. From Phoronix...

    Newspapers are the best

Haven't had time to check it out yet. Don't have any aspirations to use google+ or any other social network, but I will attempt to find a solution when time allows. I assume that y'all have confirmed what Chris has said? You can see it if you're logged in to gmail?

Shows up on my machine, no problem. I'll have to look at it later, no time right now.

    Guide Suggestions?

I've just gotten the brand new incarnation of SimCity. I'm too busy right now to get on it, but later in the month I intend to try it out and see if I can get it to run.

NSA Claims Snowden Used High Officials' Login Creds

The National Security Agency (NSA) is the font of information security wisdom for the US defense and intelligence communities. But apparently, the NSA's own network security is so weak that a single administrator was able to hijack the credentials of a number of NSA employees with high-level...

    The Taming of Cyberspace?

Far more important than *random nonsense*, this is an essay by Ferdinand Thommes, known on the Internet as 'devil', the lead visionary for Siduction Linux. Things are not going to get any better any time soon. I call it the 'taming of cyberspace', and I hope it never comes to be. This hits...

    AMD Crossfire On Linux?

Their drivers are so perpetually bad that I'm surprised it even works in Windows. I've asked a few of my mates about this before, they were all Radeon fanboys, and they told me to stop even considering it and use SLI. Most of them have come over to Nvidia as well, so that's enough proof for...

I just hate it when this happens!!

Dan, I hope I'm understanding correctly what you've done. I really haven't followed this thread, but I think I've caught up now. Well, you got it to work, and that's good, but it's a two-edged sword. There's a reason that Unix- and Linuxen don't run as root unless it's needed, the main one...

    grub problem

It's actually not that confusing, if you know all the syntax. I would have fixed my problem in about 60 seconds flat, if I'd known the correct way to designate disk 3. Problem is, with grub, no one really studies the designation syntax because grub is something that is just there; you don't...

    grub problem

OK, I've figured it out. (hd3,0) is the bootrecord of the first partition on the 4th drive, and that actually isn't where grub is. It's actually in the MBR of the 4th drive, and the designation is (hd3) Why it changed on me, IDK. Something in an update, I'd guess, but next time it happens...

    grub problem

Everything is properly installed. Chainloading is insanely simple; the root (x,x) simply tells the boot grub where the secondary disk grub is. Then it continues by booting the second system from that one. It works well when you want to add a disk with an OS already on it, and you want to...

    grub problem

I've suddenly got a glitch with grub. The box runs Gentoo on the boot drive, and siduction on another drive. It boots to the grub menu on the Gentoo drive, and has a chainloader line to allow me to boot to siduction if I want to, using the grub that is installed on the siduction drive. This...

I just hate it when this happens!!

I am quite certain your system does not use HAL. It has been deprecated for some time now in Debian and most other major distros, so don't get confused by your research...if the posts you are reading about HAL are over a year old, they aren't applicable anymore. The HAL functions have been...

Linus promised profanity, and here it comes

...and not you're not with them anymore. The important thing is, what is your legacy? It seems that you would be remembered as one of the driving forces behind the best product. That would satisfy me.
