Ashes - GZDoom

Ashes is an episodic post apocalyptic Doom mod with heavy Fallout inspiration. Survive through dozens of original maps fighting against mutants, raiders and scumbags! Loot the bodies and wield retro-fit weapons at your disposal... not to mention a motorcycle! Search for secrets and try to make it to the next map without gettin your guts blown out!
This game is hard, but fun! Be sure to save as much as possible!

Linux install

Pre-requisites
Needed either from original Doom Disc/Installation or from Freedoom website

• freedoom2.wad
• or doom.wad

GZDoom Installation and Test Run

• Install GZDoom here: https://zdoom.org/downloads
• Run GZDoom one time to populate the necessary folders in your home
• GZDoom will error, close it
• Go to: https://freedoom.github.io/download.html
• Download freedoom wad files
• Extract to your Desktop
• Copy freedoom1.wad & freedoom2.wad
• Paste in the following directory: /home/username/.config/gzdoom (hidden files may have to be enabled)
• Run GZDoom again and select freedoom2 to test if Doom is working

Mod Installation

• Download the AshesStandalone_V1_51.zip from Moddb.com
• Extract to your desktop
• Open the following directory: /home/username/.config/gzdoom
• Open the AshesStandalone_V1_51 folder on your desktop
• Open the Resources folder
• Copy all the following files AshesSAMenu.pk3 lightmodepatch.pk3 Ashes2063Enriched2_23.pk3 Ashes2063EnrichedFDPatch.pk3
• Paste the files into the gzdoom folder
• Run GZDoom again and select Freedoom2
• Wait a bit while the game loads and then press Esc to open the menu and start a new game!

Interesting looking mod...

 

It's pretty fun! Intense firefights and a cool motorcycle to travel. The modders did a really good job!
