Mint 22.3 has arrived!

Unless you want to start editing xml files, I think you are going to have to take the presets.

Under 'Preferences' you should find a 'Themes' menu item. In there you should find a few options you can twiddle.

Wow! That seems really quick.
I'm still on Mint 21.3 with my desktops.

I got to keep my laptop from work and installed Mint 22.2 and my chiropractor gave me an awesome HP Envy laptop too. I installed Mint 22.2 on it and gave it to my daughter. Then my daughter's laptop was my old work Toshiba (gaming laptop with Nvidia video card) and wiped it clean and installed Mint 22.2 on it as well.

My goal (once I get a job) will be to build new gaming PCs and installed the latest Mint on all of those. I can't wait!

thanks guys for looking into this. seems very unlike Mint not to offer a choice.
Been looking every where So far nothing.

There's some sort of bug in the windows background app. it keeps switching a a dull and low rez blue night sky.
got around it be simply going into my background files and picking one and making it my BG.

Damn not so clever as I thought, it switched back to this:

I've seen a few bugs over the years... sometimes they are fixed and other times you have to find a workaround.
I rarely have background problems even on my 4K TV with Mint.

Never saw the background thing until this up date.

May drop back to a backup if I can't find solutions

So, I just updated to 22.3. That was quite the ride.

First had to make sure I had all the latest patches (obviously). Then ran mintupgrade, which complained about a number of things that I had to resolve.

Finally upgraded to Mint 22 and had to faff about with my nVidia drivers so that I could see what I was doing. Got that sorted, then upgraded to 22.3 (which actually went pretty smoothly).

THEN I DISCOVERED THE HORROR THAT IS THE NEW MENUS.

Ugh. Seriously, what was wrong with the old menus? What problem were we addressing that was so pressing it required an overhaul of the menus?

Anyway, after much mucking about, I got the menus configured back to something on the order of how I like them.

I have always hated upgrading any operating system... starting with Windows. Back in the day I would only EVER do a fresh install of Windows XP. Never an upgrade... Probably because I read many testimonies about the driver issues, application issues and broken stuff. So I never did it. Even with later versions of Windows I would only do fresh installs at home and a work.

With the introduction of Linux back in 2006 I learned how you can install a completely different operating system with a whole new world of features that Windows didn't offer. Of course, I would only do fresh installs. Did this for years and years... one day I decided to do an upgrade of Mint just to see if it worked.... by George it did! I had no issues and all my games, drivers, features worked GREAT! I even got to a point where I upgraded my computer several times without a fresh install for a few years (I think).

Sadly even today I doubt the upgrade feature and hesitate to do it. I've seen many Daniel posts about the upgrade having bugs and he would restore an older version. So honestly I will do upgrades but only a few on one computer and eventually do a fresh install. There is something incredibly satisfying about installing Linux on a freshly formatted drive... knowing all the mess of forgotten folders, files and configurations just wiped clean.

Yeah, my problem with doing a fresh install is that there are tweaks that I have made that I never remember, so after I do the fresh install I spend the next week or more twiddling my system to get it back just the way I like it. With upgrades I normally don't have to muck about with all of that.

This time, though...
