US Housing Prices

As this goes on I expect to see rentals no one can afford, giving us a homeless population surrounded by empty houses. We just voted in the next depression. America had better awake up, it's us or trump-ett.
 
I'm in a controlled rent bldg, but few are so fortunate. Millions already can't afford the rent in their neighborhood. It's priority one to keep landlords in business, according to Karump. Many landlords aren't at all wealthy and Trump doesn't care at all about them. But it's human nature to want the most rent that they can get. And tenants can destroy their property, sometimes good references aren't nearly enough.

It's easy to put the blame on "people" like Karump(is that the sound of his artillery landing on the edge of my neighborhood? Who knows what the future can hold? But I expect it to be bad.) and Obama too--he hurt people's housing a LOT.

In the seemingly endless winter of the Pacific Northwest it's painful to even contemplate the horror of being homeless. I'm overdue on my yearly contribution to Northwest Harvest. Not any more. Yay.

So much need and such paltry donations from me. I give as much as I can. You mean actually DO something to help? I'm doing the best I can. The future is bleak indeed. Maybe Bob Dylan's "Hard Rain is Gonna Fall" is FINALLY coming to pass. It is too bad that the rain falls hardest upon those with the least protection from it.
 
Our rent has increased as expected for the last 6 years.
Really sucks because the Golden Age of buying a house in Arizona was in 2010-2014
Now the house prices are just as high as before the recession!
What is wrong with people? Who would buy a house for $200K when 5 years ago it was worth $79K???
I just don't understand.

My wife and I are so tired of renting and can't wait for the market to drop so we can finally buy a real house.
We've been watching the market in Phoenix Arizona and it continues to increase... there has to be a limit soon.
 
The best part is that the gummint insists that there isn't any inflation! I honestly don't know whether renting or owning is the better way to go. I'm sorry that you're getting painfully stretched over this sitch. Just like the great majority of everyday people, who those in charge simply don't care about. I guess we have to expect a kick in the teeth from the ruling class, but repeated kicks with thick hobnail boots are too painful for words. Would that we lived in a more fair world. Is that REALLY expecting too much from our "betters?"
 
Greed is definitely a problem here.
I've never understood the rental market or the housing market.
Its almost like gambling really...

You raise the price to see who is willing to pay it until it all crashes and you can't get anyone to rent/buy
 
At that point the gummint comes to rescue the bankers--again. And does absolutely nothing for the hundreds of thousands that had their houses repossessed--too often completely and totally fraudulently by those same bankers.

Makes you wonder if we're enjoying having so much money of the poor flowing directly to the very top. It's said that a 20 billion chunk of Jeff Bezos's more than hundred billion dollar fortune would end world hunger. Other bazillion-airs like Warren Buffet or Bill Gates wouldn't really miss that much either.

B-but they made that money fair and square! Oh, so the game isn't completely rigged? The most popular politician in America who is a socialist says that the game is rigged. Why wasn't he elected in 2016 if he's so popular? The game is rigged against the man in the street.

At least taxes are somewhat fair. The more money you make the more taxes you get taken out.

I'm in a hard spot with a single income and wanting to buy a house. The market is just too high. So we are waiting for the next market crash and will buy a house to retire in.

Until then, rent increases and increases and increases
 
Folks closer to the bottom of the heap are penalized by the federal tax code. Mr Trump has made this worse with his and his rich pals paying even less now. It's not right that you are so put upon.

Taxes are also rigged. Warren Buffet once said said something like this "my secretary pays far more taxes than I do. That's not fair." When you have a LOT of money you pay much less income tax than we commoners do.
Last time I checked sales tax in Arizona wasn't too high. Of course you used to pay a smaller sales tax on food, too.

In my fair state sales tax is darn near ten percent. That punishes the man in the street far more than the rich. Because sales tax makes the percentage of income that the poor pay far more than the rich. Regressive taxes should be a crime. When Eisenhower was President long ago the wealthy paid a very high percentage of their income on federal income tax. Like about 90%. Funny, this didn't hurt the economy at all. All imho.
 
The last tax bill to pass congress creates a trillion dollar debt the middle class will have to pay for in increased taxes down the line. The whole tax bill is nothing less than fraudulent. The beauty part is that it will fall most heavily on Trumpett country and voters.
 
It's more likely that it falls most unfairly upon those who can afford the least of everything. I read that someone's secretary now receives $1.50 more per week. A tax "deal" we can all believe in. It must be true, a golf course that isn't green enough must be improved by those that will never see it.
 
Arizona just had a district teacher strike. Started last Thursday and ended today.
That is roughly 60 thousand teachers striking and 1.1 millions students not at school.
Maybe this would start another market crash?
 
Sorry, I haven't seen the news. How did your governor respond to the strike? The people in charge don't care about workers, so I doubt that this well deserved strike by the teachers in your fair state will affect the markets. Oh, the market is all, the market is everything, gosh, I love me some markets.
 
the strike "was" going to end yesterday when Legistlation decided to NOT sign the new bill, so now the teachers are continuing the strike. The Governor has promised raises and budget increases in the past, but it was not good enough for the schools... hence the strike.

Not strictly true. The top MARGINAL rate was 91%, but the EFFECTIVE rate was much lower (around 45% IIRC). This compares with an effective rate of just over 35% or so now, so the change in effective rate payed is not that great. To be sure, it's still a decrease of something like 20% over the last 60 years, but is nowhere near what the 90% tax figure would lead you to believe.

There are a great many taxes we pay that are regressive, and that really is wrong, and wrong-headed.

How is it reasonable to charge a tax on necessities, like food, clothing, or shelter? We can have a discussion about whether soda pop and doritos should be taxed or not (I think it's reasonable to tax them), but surely things like milk, eggs, flour and meat should be tax exempt?

I really don't like the government involved in my affairs, and I really don't think the government should be in the business of deciding the market by determing what to impose taxes on and what not to, but if we're going to go down the path of a use tax (which is what a sales tax is) then we should at least try to impose it in a way that doesn't punish those who have nothing with which to pay.
 
Sorry Chris, it's catch 22, if you have money you don't have to pay, only if you don't have any money, need you actually pay your taxes...unless you count Warren Buffets Secretary.":O}
