I had one summer to teach myself to surf. I must have been a bad teacher because I never learned well.
Love this. You can feel the admiration Steve has for Frank, and it is rightfully deserved. Frank was an enigma; a controversial genius, technical wizard, and improvisational guru, influencing more players than we will ever know. Struck down at 53, who knows what he would have produced in a normal lifetime?
You can repost this weekly from now til eternity, and I'll listen to it every time. One of the greats, and a great song.
Mostly they celebrate love unrequited. Often the object of such love is a complete heal or a totally unfaithful slut. I feel the main objective of torch songs is to contrast the purity of heart of the singer with the complete sociopaths utter indifference to love. A great torch song makes the listener deeply feel how very much better off the singer would be if they had fallen for ones self. "Anyone who had a heart" Pretty much sums it all up.
