Well the video does say doobie did it.This is a very confusing situation. I know, no one asked me. But ttbmk Dobie Gray did this song first. Try to tell the difference between Dobie Gray's version and the version that The Doobie Brothers allegedly recorded. They seem to be identical, so why does this Doobie Brothers rendition of the song exist? I smell a messed up attribution. I have my sincere doubt that the Doobie Brothers ever recorded this tune. Ever.
No one called for an amateur musicologist. My bad. Again.

Dobie made a big hit from it, but it wasn't actually his song, that is for certain.
This from Wikipedia:
""Drift Away" has also been covered by many bands and vocalists around the world. Versions include those of Uncle Kracker, Allan Clarke, Roy Orbison, Ike & Tina Turner, Humble Pie, Mud, Rod Stewart, James Hollis, Waylon Jennings, Ray Charles, Michael Bolton, the Neville Brothers, Jon Bon Jovi[19], Copperhead, Christian Kane, the Rolling Stones, the Nylons, Ringo Starr, Bruce Springsteen, BoDeans, Judson Spence, Billy Joe Royal, Steve Young and John Kay.[20] Folk singer Tom Rush recorded the song on his album What I Know, released in 2009."
No mention of the Doobie Brothers.
George, you are vindicated![]()
I really liked this song, but I doubt I would have ever recalled it, Thanks George!Forgot this one, but it was a pot smoker's mini dream
Another lost in the mist of time to me, again thanks!Another decent old one.
Too bad that this video quality is so bad.
So glad you made it George.":O}Steve Winwood the Younger
Music does indeed call us together...just not by name.":O}Here's where we did it, in October:

How good is this?
Damn, I miss the 70s.
Really good quality sound on this video, too. [It was probably lip-synched]
Here's another, older Rod doing the same song. I rather like this one, but it's not the amazing Faces [one of my favorite 70s groups]:
It's coldness shocked me, but I liked to song.
